BLIND
“Blind”is a series that I presented at the exhibition “Roppongi Crossing 2016: My Body, Your Voice”at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo in 2016.
Roppongi, where the museum is located, is generally thought of as a lavish place. Yet through my interviews I began to see the hostesses and sex workers that live in the shadows of this lavishness. By interviewing them, their problems of “loneliness and poverty”became apparent, and I saw a completely different reality than the popular idea of Roppongi.
We tend to only pay attention to areas where the light shines, and ignore the truths that are hidden in the shadows. Yet we should by no means be indifferent to the fact that there are people suffering from crippling poverty and loneliness.
